Capt. Dave Hunt |
|
BORN AND RAISED IN MIAMI, Florida, Capt. Dave has spent his life in pursuit of the myriad of gamefish in S. Fla. waters. His obsession with fishing progressed from fishing local Miami canals as a child with his father’s bamboo fly rod to pursuing game fish worldwide. His passion has developed into a focus on sight fishing in skinny water for tarpon, bonefish, permit, snook and redfish. Much of his youth was spent fishing in Flamingo, Biscayne Bay and the Fla. Keys— he would stay on his parents’ boat at Billy’s Point in Biscayne Bay, drive with his Dad to Flamingo or stay at the Kon-Tiki in Islamorada and rent a boat at Ev Fowler’s place. In the 1970’s he and some friends built a log cabin in the Big Cypress Swamp off the Tamiami Trail (now a National Preserve) which has given him a unique perspective on understanding and fishing the Everglades. Since buying his first flats boat 20 years ago, much of his time has, again, been spent in Biscayne Bay, Everglades National Park and the Florida Keys. He’s also an avid coldwater fisherman—enjoying trout, salmon and steelhead and enjoys fishing in Alaska, the lower 48 and Argentina. He’s also managed to find time to catch a # of sailfish on fly in Guatemala.
